Mentors For Military - Mentoring should be an important part of your transition from a career to a civilian career. With a mentor, you'll gain information, insights, resources, and connections to key influencers, insights, and opportunities. Your mentor will support, encourage and hold you accountable for goals you both agree are in your best interest.
While mentors come through both formal programs and informal relationships, there are certain questions to ask your mentor to ensure you get the most value out of the relationship.

If you work with a mentor before the separation, they can guide your thought process and evaluation of opportunities. This can be very useful for your first later job. If you've been in the civilian sector for some time, your mentor can guide you through your day-to-day challenges and questions, provide resources and advice on growth and networking opportunities, and make sure you manage your work-life balance. .
Your mentor may be an expert in an industry or have spent their career in a particular field or with a company that interests you. Ask them about the industry and company they work for to gain insight.
Chances are, professional relationships won't have the common focus and mission of the relationships you formed in those. Hopefully you will meet people who will support, encourage and help you, but they will still be different. Your mentor can provide guidance here.
